Toccoa man reports gold bar theft in Rabun County, 3-years later

The Rabun County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a felony theft by taking case in Tiger.

On June 21, 2023, a Toccoa resident spoke to a deputy about a theft.

He said that he went to a football game at the Rabun County football fields about three years ago and brought a lock box containing gold bars to give to his wife.  He left the box unlocked and under his seat in the bleachers.

When his wife picked up the box, she noticed it had been emptied.

He said he had not reported the theft until now because he believed the thief would have exposed themselves by bragging about the theft.

He said the game he went to see was Rabun County High School versus Prince Avenue Baptist.

The estimated cost of the gold bars is $50,000.
