Toccoa man receives critical head injury after failing to negotiate a curve

A Toccoa man remains in critical condition at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a wreck late Tuesday night.

Sr. Trooper John Crawford of the Georgia State Patrol Post 7 says Samuel Lee Castillo, 26, of Toccoa suffered a critical head injury after losing control of the 2004 Subaru Impreza Outback, he was driving.

At the time of the wreck, the vehicle was traveling south on Ga. 106 (Mize Road), in Toccoa, negotiating a left curve.

The vehicle then crossed the center turn lane and northbound lane, striking a retaining wall causing the airbags to deploy.

Castillo was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

On arrival, EMS transported Castillo by ambulance to NGMC for treatment of the “very critical” head injury.

Crawford says Alcohol use is suspected.
