Toccoa man facing multiple felony charges in Franklin County

A Toccoa man is facing multiple felony charges in Franklin County and Athens-Clarke County after a home invasion over the weekend.

It happened on Saturday in the Plainview Community on Highway 51 near Carnesville.

According to Franklin County Sheriff Steve Thomas, a homeowner answered a knock at the front door, and when they opened the door, a man entered the home uninvited.

The lone suspect then assaulted the homeowner and took money, clothing and the victim’s VOLVO sedan.

A preliminary investigation into the home invasion revealed that the suspect is identified as 33-year-old Allijah Timothy Banks, of Toccoa.

Thomas said the stolen Volvo was entered into the National Crime database, as a stolen vehicle, and a BOLO was issued to surrounding Law Enforcement agencies.

Then at about 3 a.m. Sunday morning, Athens-Clarke County Police encountered the stolen Volvo and conducted a felony traffic stop and a male who was a passenger in the vehicle, identified as Banks, was arrested.

Investigators were able to secure the stolen vehicle, according to Thomas, and it was taken back to Franklin County for evidence processing.

Thomas says Banks is currently hospitalized for unknown reasons with a guard placed on him.

The Sheriff said he will provide more details on why Banks is hospitalized later.

Banks is expected to be released to the Franklin County Detention Center within the next 72 hours.

He is charged with felony home invasion, armed robbery and burglary.

Thomas said more charges are expected to be filed this week as the home Invasion investigation continues.
