Toccoa man behind bars after speeding, possessing drugs

A Toccoa man is in custody after driving 39-mph over the posted speed limit.

Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize told WNEG News about the recent incident.

According to Mize, on the evening of September 5, officers spotted a black Ford truck traveling at 84 mph in a 45 mph zone.

Officers then performed a traffic stop and identified the driver as 25-year-old Marcus Christian Rogers.

Rogers was then arrested for reckless driving.

As officers searched Roger’s person, they found a hand-rolled cigarette containing a green, leafy substance believed to be marijuana, inside a cigarette box that was in his pocket.

A subsequent search on his vehicle revealed a Short Barreled AR-Rifle in the front seat, prompting officers to charge Rogers with possession of a dangerous weapon, reckless driving, and possession of marijuana.

Following his arrest, he was taken to the Stephens County Jail.

Mize said that while his officers were processing the evidence, they discovered a crystal like substance, believed to be crystal meth, concealed in a plastic wrapper inside a cigarette box.

Rogers then received two additional charges: possession of methamphetamine and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

In all, Rogers was charged with reckless driving, possession of marijuana, possession of a dangerous weapon, possession of methamphetamine and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
