Toccoa man arrested on trafficking charges

On Dec. 27, Officers with the Toccoa Police Department responded to a residence on Wesley Drive in reference to a search warrant. The search warrant stemmed from a medical call that had taken place the previous day where narcotics were located in the residence.

Upon arrival, entry was gained into the residence. During the search of the residence, a jar containing marijuana, a clear bag containing methamphetamine, and a syringe containing liquid methamphetamine were located inside the bedroom of Ryan Bellamy, 39, of Toccoa.

Bellamy was already in custody for the narcotics found the previous day.

A search was also conducted on a building behind the home where multiple baggies containing a green substance believed to be marijuana were found.

Permission was given to officers to search a vehicle owned by Bellamy’s father due to Ryan Bellamy driving the vehicle. During the search of the vehicle, a syringe containing a liquid substance was located. Later testing confirmed the substance to be methamphetamine.

Ryan Bellamy was charged, in total, with trafficking methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, and obstruction of a law enforcement officer.

On Dec. 29, a second search warrant was conducted on Ryan Bellamy’s vehicle, located on Broad Street. A K-9 officer with the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office assisted and a positive alert was given on the vehicle, but no contraband was located during a search.

Bellamy’s bond hearing will be scheduled in Stephens County superior court, as opposed to Magistrate Court, since drug trafficking charges are included in the specific set of criminal charges for which Georgia State law requires bond to be set by a Superior Court Judge.
