Toccoa Man Arrested in South Carolina with Stolen Goods

A Toccoa man has been arrested in South Carolina for receiving and possessing stolen goods and for outstanding warrants in Rabun County.

According to the Oconee County Sheriff’s Department, Donald Lee Bales, age 63 of Toccoa, was arrested on Thursday afternoon in the Wal Mart Parking lot in Seneca.

According to the report, officers responded in reference to a suspicious vehicle. The officer made contact with Bales when standing beside a gray Dodge Ram 1500 with a North Carolina dealer tag ID. When asked for a form of identification, Bales stated that he did not have it and his name was Tony Lee Smith from North Carolina.

Officers then ran a tag on the vehicle and it was reported stolen out of North Carolina. Officers then ran a check on the Vehicle Identification number and was advised the truck was reported stolen out of Hall County, Georgia. Bales was then arrested for the stolen property as well as the outstanding warrants in Rabun County that include a violation of probation.
