Toccoa man arrested in Rabun County for DUI

On July 9, deputies of the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office were given a be on the lookout for a 1998 Chevrolet Sierra.

A Tallulah Falls Police Officer stopped the vehicle on Old 441 South.

While searching the vehicle, a deputy found a half-empty bottle of whiskey.

The deputy then initiated field sobriety tests on the driver, 32-year-old Steven Harold Welch of Toccoa.

After failing the tests, Welch was arrested and charged with driving under the influence (DUI), possession of an open alcohol container, defective tires, and a windshield violation.

He was transported to the Rabun County Detention Center for booking.
