Toccoa man arrested for stabbing death of father, injury to mother

UPDATE: 7:18 p.m., 12/28 – WNEG News has received confirmation from Franklin County School Superintendent Melanie Burton-Brown that Janet Lynn Vaughn, mother of Christopher Vaughn, was a teacher in neighboring Franklin County for 27 years. She retired in May, 2021, and is currently employed with ESS (Educational Staffing Solution) as a substitute teacher and frequently works as a substitute teacher in Franklin County elementary schools. Janet Vaughn was transported to Stephens County Hospital this morning after law enforcement officials responded to the scene on Bart Holcomb Road. There is no report on the extent of her injuries or her status at this time.
Earlier today, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation arrested and charged Christopher Vaughn, 39, of Toccoa, with one count of murder and two counts of aggravated assault.
In a report just released moments ago (7:15 p.m., 12/28) by the GBI, officials state that this morning, at around 7:40 a.m., the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office responded to a person stabbed call at a home on Bart Holcomb Rd. When deputies arrived, they found William James Vaughn, age 63, of Toccoa, dead in his home.
The deputies cleared the home and found Christopher Vaughn locked inside a room. He was taken into custody.
Another victim, Janet Lynn Vaughn, age 62, of Toccoa, was located at a home nearby and airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The Stephen’s County Sheriff’s Office requested the GBI to assist them with the stabbing investigation.
Earlier in the day, at around 6 a.m., deputies responded to a verbal domestic call at the same home, before the person stabbed call.
Christopher Vaughn was taken to the Stephens County Jail.
Upon completion of the investigation, the case will be provided to the Mountain Judicial Circuit for prosecution.
