Toccoa man arrested by SCSO following traffic stop turned foot chase

The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Toccoa man following a traffic stop turned foot chase.

According to Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley, on February 18, at approximately 4:20 a.m., a deputy was on routine patrol and was made aware the driver of the vehicle in front of him was wanted for a felony warrant who also didn’t have a valid driver’s license.

The deputy activated his emergency lights to pull over the suspect. The suspect stopped his car and immediately exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

Dispatch radioed more Sheriff’s Deputies and Toccoa Police to respond to the pursuing deputy’s location.

While the suspect was running from deputies, Shirley says, he began throwing what appeared to be suspected marijuana.

Deputies were able to apprehend the suspect a short distance later without incident.

Deputies and Officers with the Toccoa Police Department were able to recover over an ounce of suspected marijuana.

Shirley says once the suspect was arrested, deputies checked his vehicle where they located prescription pills suspected to be Oxycodone and more than $2,300 in cash in a fanny pack found in the passenger floorboard. Deputies also located an AR-15 rifle in the backseat.

Jaquion Nekoriae Turner, 24, of Toccoa was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of Oxycodone with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, obstruction of a law enforcement officer, and driving while licensed suspended.

Shirley says Turner had an outstanding warrant for cruelty to children in the first degree with criminal negligence, and cruelty to children in the second degree with criminal negligence.

Turner’s bond was set at $66,000.

He remains in the Stephens County Jail.
