Toccoa Man arrested after Traffic Stop

A traffic stop leads to the arrest of a Toccoa man.

On Feb. 21, Investigators, from the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office, witnessed a 1995 Ford Explorer, grey in color, driven by Timothy James Meeks, 35, leave a residence and come to a stop at Holiness Church Road and Oak Valley Road.

Investigators took note that Meeks was not wearing his seatbelt and the vehicle he was driving had a large crack across the windshield.

As Meeks continued onto Oak Valley, investigators proceeded to conduct a traffic stop.

According to authorities, during the stop, investigators smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from Meeks’ person, which led investigators to conduct a search on Meeks.

Investigators were able to retrieve a quantity of marijuana as well as a set of digital scales.

With the discovered items, investigators began to search the vehicle, where they found approximately 5 grams of methamphetamine stashed away between the driver’s seat and center console.

Following his arrest, investigators went back to the residence on Bendenberry Road, where they had originally seen the vehicle, there the investigators spoke with a female who agreed to allow them to search the residence.

The search turned up no other contraband.

Meeks was charged with possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.

He is currently being held at the Stephens County Jail on a $31,000 bond.
