Toccoa man arrested after traffic stop

A Toccoa man was arrested following a recent traffic stop.

According to Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley, on May 24, at 7:48 a.m., a Stephens County Sheriff’s Deputy and his K-9 Dexter, conducted a traffic stop on a white Tahoe at the intersection of Almond Street and West Currahee Street for displaying a suspended registration.

During the stop, a Ruger 9mm Pistol was observed during a consent to search.

K-9 Dexter alerted on the presence of illegal narcotics inside the vehicle. A further search revealed a large plastic baggie containing a crystal substance commonly known as suspected Methamphetamine.

After a positive field test of the crystal substance, both the 9mm handgun and approximately one-and-a-half ounces of suspected methamphetamine were seized.

The driver, identified as 25-year-old Britt Jade Shackelford, was arrested and charged with trafficking methamphetamine, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and operating a vehicle with a suspended registration.

He is currently being held in the Stephens County Jail without bond.
