Toccoa man arrested after passerby reports hearing screams

A pedestrian’s call to 911 leads to the arrest of a Toccoa man.

According to Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize, on Thursday, his officers were dispatched to a residence at 111 Skyview Lane in response to a citizen’s report of hearing the screams of a woman coming from inside a residence on Skyview Lane.

Once officers arrived on scene, they found a female hiding in the bathroom from a man, identified as Harold Morris.

Mize said that Morris, a convicted felon, threatened to kill three people and attempted to kill one person with a stolen pistol after hitting them repeatedly with a 32-inch, flat screen television.

Morris fled on foot when officers attempted to detain him; however, he was later found at a residence on Audobon Place Road and taken into custody.

Harold Morris, 27, of Toccoa was charged with aggravated assault; battery under the family violence act; kidnapping; burglary; pointing or aiming a gun or pistol at another person; terroristic threats and acts; possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a crime; reckless conduct; cruelty to children – child present; theft by receiving stolen property; obstructing or hindering law enforcement officers; giving false name, address or birthday to law enforcement; receipt, possession or transfer of a firearm by a convicted felon; criminal trespassing; probation warrant for Franklin County; and a bench warrant for Stephens County.
