Toccoa man arrested after armed robbery, chase

Brandon Vinson was arrested following an armed robbery and chase.

A Toccoa man has been charged with the armed robbery that took place last week.

According to Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize, on Friday, his officers and detectives were working on a tip to located Brandon Vinson, who was involved in  an armed robbery the day before.

A traffic stop was initiated on his girlfriend’s car; however, officers were uncertain if Vinson was with her or not.

As detectives approached the vehicle, they saw that Vinson was in the passenger seat.

Mize said detectives requested Vinson to step out of the car and then handcuffed him; however, he immediately complained the cuffs were too tight. Detectives loosened the cuffs, checked for a proper fit and double locked them.

After being cuffed, Vinson was searched for any weapons or contraband.

As detectives were placing him in the back of the patrol car, Vinson got one hand out of a cuff, spun around and took off down Collier Road.

According to Mize, while in pursuit, one of his detectives fell and received injuries to his head and both arms.

Shortly after the chase began, a Stephens County Sheriff’s Office Deputy called to report he had Vinson in custody.

He was then transported to the Stephens County Jail without further incident.

Vinson is charged with escape, giving false name, theft by taking, obstruction of officers and interference with government property.
