Toccoa Main Street gearing up for Arbor Day

Toccoa Main Street is gearing up for Arbor Day in Toccoa-Stephens County.

Each year, Toccoa Main Street organizes a tree planting ceremony in downtown Toccoa.

This year, Arbor Day falls on Friday, February 21.

Main Street Toccoa’s Events Coordinator Sharon Crosby says on Friday, the city has plans to plant a white oak and two dogwood trees on the courthouse lawn.

Crosby says for 14 years, the City of Toccoa has been recognized as a Tree City USA.

According to the Arbor Day Foundation, in order to become a Tree City USA, a municipality must adhere to certain guidelines.

Those include, creating a Tree Board Department, pass a Tree Care ordinance, develop a Community Forestry Program with an annual budget of at least $2 per capita, and have an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.

Again, on Friday, February 21, the Arbor Day tree planting ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. on the Courthouse lawn.

The public is invited to attend.
