Toccoa Little League Opening Day is this Saturday

It’s Opening Day for Toccoa Little League this Saturday.

The day begins with the Parade of Teams at 9:15 am.

All teams and coaches should assemble in the Tugalo Street parking lot near the train caboose.

The teams will march down East Doyle Street to the ballpark where the Opening Day ceremony will be held.

All of the teams and sponsors will be recognized.

The 1973 Stephens County High School baseball team, who won the state title at the Doyle Street Park field, will be honored on their 50th Anniversary.

Toccoa Little League President, Doug McCollum, says 2 special Little League volunteers who passed away late last year will also be honored.

“We’re going to honor long-time umpire and chief Gary York who passed away in November. He was our district umpire chief and he was down here for our state tournament this last year. So, we’re going to honor Gary. Then Adam Murray, that passed away. Adam played ball at Toccoa Little League and was a coach and umpired a lot. He was on the board at one time. So, we’re going to honor him,” McCollum said.

Woodmen Life will provide a big American Flag for the Opening Day ceremony.  Games will start at 12 noon and will continue throughout the day.

Teams playing on the Senior League baseball field at Doyle Street Park this season will notice the dirt infield playing surface has been replaced with new Bermuda grass sod.

No Little League funds were used in the project.

North Georgia Turf in Clarkesville donated all of the sod needed and Little League volunteers installed it back in October.

Georgia Little League has already awarded Toccoa as the host for the Senior League Baseball State Tournament that will be held beginning July 8th.
