Toccoa Commission Approves Housing Authority Appointments, LMIG Project

Toccoa City Commissioners wasting no time in taking votes on two key line items in their end-of-the-month agenda.

At Monday’s regular meeting, the Board selected two new members to sit on the Housing Authority Board.

City Manager Billy Morse the move had to be made because of a procedure error earlier in the year.

“So we had to come back and appoint a couple more people to the Housing Authority,” he said. “We had appointed Fredda Wheeler, City Clerk and Jeanette Jamieson, mayor. And it turns out city officials cannot serve on the Housing Board. So tonight we approved the appointment of Rose Mead and Agnes Oglesby.”

In other business, Morse said Commissioners voted to designate their 2018 LMIG funds to building a sidewalk on Rosedale St.

“For next year, we know the amount we’re going to get. It’s $137,364.96. Previously, we had a work session and presented several projects to them. So, tonight they approved the one they liked and it’s the Rosedale sidewalk project,” Morse said.

The sidewalk construction on Rosedale will begin at East Tugalo St. and end at Prather Bridge Road.

According to Morse, total cost of that project is $230,000.

Of that, the City will contribute $100,000 and the LMIG grant will cover the rest.
