Also on the agenda is consideration of the awarding of an approximate $12M contract for the Eastanollee Creek WPCP Phase II project. A majority of the work included in the scope of the project is required to remain compliant with the city’s Georgia Environmental Protection Agency permit. Several adjustments to the non-mandatory aspects of the original project were eliminated or suggested for streamlining to reduce the original project estimate by approximately $1.5M. Details on the project and cost estimates can be found in the agenda packet, which will be available attached to this story on wnegradio.com.

In other city news, at the Toccoa City Commission meeting on Feb. 26, commissioners approved an extension of the moratorium on vape shops for an additional 6 months. The original 6-month moratorium was approved during the August 28, 2023 meeting, and expired February 28.  The new extension will leave the existing moratorium in place until August 30 of this year. According to agenda documentation, there have been no applications for an applicable business since the original moratorium was enacted. Commissioners also approved an agreement with the Toccoa Little League for the maintenance and management of Alewine Park so that Toccoa Little League can use two fields at Alewine Park for practice fields. The two fields referenced are the top field at the entrance of the park, and the first field on the lower level. Use of the building at Alewine Park is not included in the proposed agreement, as the building is used by the Fire Department as part of their training area. Little League President Doug McCollum was present at the meeting, and stated, additionally, that Toccoa will again host the 9-10 year old State Tournament, and said that opening day for this year’s Little League Season will be this coming Saturday, March 16. WNEG News will have more information on Opening Day activities later this week.
