Toccoa City Commission meets tonight

The Toccoa City Commission will meet Monday for its monthly work session and regular scheduled meeting, held in the City Commission/Court Room.

The work session will begin promptly at 4:30 p.m. and the regular meeting will follow at 5:00 p.m.

For the work session, the commission will be discussing an increase in salary for entry level officers.

The proposed rate for all officers is $15.73; however, for a 5-Year Officer the rate would be $16.

If approved the additional cost for the remainder of this fiscal year will be $146,707 over budget.

This amount includes: salary, holiday pay, insurance, FICA, retirement and workers compensation.

Currently, the Toccoa Police Department are experiencing issues with recruiting and retaining entry level police officers, the department believe these issues stem from the starting salary for the position.

Another item on the agenda to be discussed during the work session is the city potentially joining the Appalachian Drug Task Force.

On the regular meeting agenda, the commission will hear a recommendation from Alcohol Beverage Control Board, and the monthly financial report.

As always, the public is encouraged to attend these meetings.
