Toccoa City Commission Approves Budget Amendment for Public Safety

The Toccoa City Commission held the regular meeting on Monday. During the meeting the Commission approved General Fund Budget amendments for public safety pay, and employee appreciation bonus. Toccoa City Manager Billy Morse presented the amendment totals. “We do have two budget amendments for your consideration. One is an amendment to last fiscal year, that is FY21’, to cover the cost of employee bonuses in the amount of $139,000. The other is an amendment to the current budget FY22’ to cover adjustments for Public Safety personnel in the amount of $163,079.”

The City Commission approved the amendments.

The Commission also approved an extension of a Moratorium in the City of Toccoa on licensing and location of facilities which may be classified as a halfway house, drug rehabilitation center, or a facility for the treatment of drug dependency. Toccoa City Commissioner Gail Fry stated the reason to extend the Moratorium. “The reason we did this is a few months ago there was some discussion about a drug rehabilitation center that was going to be built next to a daycare center, and there was a lot of public comments about that. So we are doing that because we do not have anything in our ordinance that states that they can’t be by schools, daycare centers, churches, and until we can get an ordinance that will allow us to do that we are going to continue with the Moratorium.”

The Moratorium was extended for a period up to and including March 30, 2022.
