Toccoa Christmas Parade Also for the Dogs

The Toccoa Christmas Parade is tomorrow and at a new time this year beginning at 10 A.M.

The theme this year is “The Magic of Christmas” and the Grand Marshal is Paralympic multi-medalist McKenzie Coan.

This year’s event is sponsored by The Professional Women of Toccoa-Stephens County and there are approximately 55 entries scheduled to parade on the familiar route up Doyle Street to Foreacre, to Alexander, to Savannah, and end at Toccoa Elementary School.

The Professional Women of Toccoa-Stephens County are asking entries to line up at 8:30 A.M.

This year, all proceeds raised from the parade will go towards the first-ever Professional Women of Toccoa-Stephens County Scholarship.

Something a little different in this year’s parade will be the parade of owners and their dogs with the Toccoa-Stephens County Humane Shelter entry. Jeff Roberts, Executive Director of the Toccoa Stephens County Humane Shelter invites you humans to bring your dogs. “We would like to invite you to join us as we celebrate the bond between people and their pets by walking your dog in the 2021 Toccoa Christmas Parade. If you want to add to The Magic of Christmas parade you can dress up you and your dog in your favorite holiday finery. We will be meeting at 9:45 A.M. across from the Regions Bank. Just look for the shelter’s Sprinter van.”

Roberts tells WNEG that owners need to keep a couple of things in mind when they bring their dogs. “They need to be on a good strong leash and make sure the collar is tight so we won’t have any escapees, and all animals that want to walk in the parade must be current on rabies vaccinations.”

Roberts says the hope of the shelter is that onlookers will see the beauty and value of the relationship between the owner and the dog. “We are trying to plant the seed for people who have been thinking about getting a pet can look at the enjoyment that the animals and people are getting. They too can get that bond by adopting an animal from us.”

Roberts adds If you have any questions, please call the shelter at 706-282-3275.

WNEG is planning to bring you the entire parade on Facebook Live on the WNEG Radio Facebook page.
