Toccoa celebrating Georgia City Week

Toccoa officials have joined other cities across the state of Georgia in celebrating “Georgia City Week.”

Georgia City Week is celebrated during the week of October 3 through October 9.

This year’s theme is “Shaping the Future,” which reflects the role that cities play in the state’s history, economy, and culture.

This week has been set aside to recognize the many services city governments provide and their contribution to a better quality of life in Georgia.

City Mayor Evan Hellenga says he’s proud of Toccoa and the services the city provides making it attractive to residents and visitors.

He says, “cities provide the services and infrastructure to help businesses grow and set the stage for events where families and individuals can gather as a community.”

The average citizen will have more direct contact with local governments than with state or federal governments.

Because of this, city officials feel a responsibility to ensure that the public knows how the city operates and feels connected to their government.

For more information about city services, citizens can go to www.cityoftoccoa.com.

To celebrate Georgia Cities Week, there will be a Ribbon Tying at the Walking Trail at the Lake Toccoa Recreation Facilities today at 10 a.m.

The community is invited to attend.

There will also be a Sip-n-Stroll on Friday, October 8, in downtown Toccoa from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a concert at the Historic Ritz Theatre at 7:00 p.m. with Edgar Loudermilk.

Tickets for the concert are $10.

Also, during the week, there will be fun and informative activities on the Main Street Toccoa Facebook page.
