Toccoa and Stephens County mark the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Monday, the annual Interfaith Service took place at Trinity C.M.E. Church in Toccoa.

This year marks the 27th anniversary celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in Toccoa.

That was followed by the March for Peace, which went from the church to the steps of Toccoa City Hall.

At the City Hall steps, this year’s winner of the MLK Essay Contest in Toccoa, Ashli Brooks, read her essay.

Her topic was using Dr. Kings voice, his teaching, and his love for humanity, saying that quote “If I want something to change, then the change has to start with me.”

Brooks ended her speech with this quote, “Watch your thoughts, they become words, watch your words, for they become actions.”

Monday’s event was organized by the Black Christian Men Association in Stephens County.

Prior to Monday’s events, were several events spread out over the course of two weekends.

Including the annual Art Contest held at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, the Talent/Fashion Show held in the Schaefer Center, the Oratorical/Essay Contest, the Senior Citizens Reflections held at Deercourt CME Church, the Musical Extravaganza at Friendship Baptist Church.
