Toccoa and Shiloh Fire Departments respond to apartment fire Sunday

The Toccoa and Shiloh Fire Departments responded to an apartment fire Sunday afternoon.

According to Toccoa Assistant Fire Chief Frankie Deitz, a 911 caller reported a fire in an upstairs apartment just before 5 p.m.

Deitz says a smoke detector could be heard sounding in the background.

Firefighters were met with heavy smoke at the top of the stairwell to the apartment. Firefighters were able to locate and extinguish the fire with one hoseline.

Deitz says the fire damage was limited to one bedroom.

All of the occupants were able to safely exit without injury.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office is assisting Fire Chief Jeff Haslup in the investigation.

Apartment Management were able to relocate the occupants to another apartment.

Deitz says working smoke detectors near bedrooms, and on every level of your home can give occupants time to escape to safety.

The Fire Department has free smoke alarms available to those who cannot afford one.
