Toccoa and Carnes Creek Firefighters Battle Hill Street Blaze For Hours Yesterday

Yesterday morning, the Toccoa Fire Department, along with units from Carnes Creek Volunteer Fire Department, responded to a house fire in the 300 block of South Hill Street near downtown Toccoa.

Callers reported the fire to dispatch, stating they could see flames and the “windows were popping,”and within minutes, TFD units were on scene.

The house contained three separate residences, according to Toccoa Fire Chief Jeff Haslup, who told WNEG News that all individuals in the house at the time of the fire were evacuated, but one individual tried to re-enter the home, possibly to rescue a pet, and suffered from smoke inhalation. He was airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta for treatment. No update on his condition has been made available as of this time.

Haslup said the cause of the fire had not yet been determined.

No fire personnel were injured while battling the blaze.

WNEG will continue to monitor this story and provide updates as they become available.
