Toccoa 10U Team Gets Exciting Win in Extra Inning

Zaiden McCullough’s ground ball scored Christian Waters from 3rd base with the tying run, and when the throw bounced away from first, Myles Segers scored the winning run as Toccoa came from behind to defeat Rabun County 7-6 in extra innings in the 10 and under District 7 tournament elimination game Monday night in Hartwell.

Toccoa led 3-0 after one inning with all 3 runs scoring on bases loaded walks. Rabun County scored 3 runs in the top of the 4th to tie the game, but Toccoa came back with 2 runs in the bottom of the inning to go back up 5-3.

Rabun County tied the game in the top of the 6th inning and took the lead 6-5 in the extra inning.

Segers picked up the win on the mound for Toccoa. Brant Smith was outstanding for Toccoa pitching 5 and 2/3 innings and striking out 9.

Smith was also the leading hitter at the plate reaching base all four times with three hits, scoring two runs, and an RBI. Waters and Segers also scored twice, and Cash Butler scored the other run.

McCullough added 2 RBI’s and Toccoa also got RBI’s from Jordan Williams and Jackson Howland.

Toccoa will now face Hart County again on Tuesday night. Hart fell to Franklin County 13-6. Toccoa lost to Hart on Sunday 13-5. The winner will meet Franklin County on Wednesday.

The Toccoa 11 and under team will begin a best two out of three series with Hart County on Tuesday night at 7 P.M. WNEG will broadcast game one with airtime scheduled for 6:45 P.M.
