Time extended for man living in camper

During last week’s Stephens County Board of Commissioners meeting, Robert Robbins came before the commission requesting, yet another, variance request.

“I just appreciate your time this morning, and I appreciate your willingness to work with me. The health department has given me another year for the septic tank; but, I have a guy who’s going to help me find my old one, or install a new one,” Robbins said.

In December of 2016, Robbins spoke to the commissioners regarding his property on Red Rock Road.

Robbins said he had purchased his property in September of 2016 and moved there, not realizing the county had an ordinance that would not allow him to live in his camper on the property as he had planned.

Again, Stephens County officials are working with Robbins to try and resolve his living situation on his property.

The commissioners discussed the variance request in its regular scheduled meeting, following the work session.

Commissioner Dennis Bell included in his motion to require Robbins to have rectified his living situation to reflect the County’s ordinance within six months then he will have to come before the commission again.

“Here’s my motion, I say we give him another 6-months to get everything done, or he has to come and see us so we can begin to go a separate route,” said Bell

Chair Michelle Ivester explained that she was against the request.

The motion passed 2-1 with Ivester voting against the motion.

Both Scarborough and Commissioner Dennis Bell voted in favor of the motion.
