Three Arrested-Two Wanted for Illegal Gambling
On Thursday, September 3rd the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office simultaneously executed 4 search warrants at local convenience stores in Toccoa. The execution of these warrants were part of an investigation into commercial gambling activity at these businesses. According to the Stephens County Sheriff’s office, for many months this illegal operation had been an ongoing problem generating other criminal activity on the property, as well as other numerous calls for service by law enforcement.
Through an undercover operation, investigators were able to obtain multiple cash payouts on electronic gambling machines at each of the businesses. As a result of the covert operation, the Sheriff’s Office seized a significant amount of cash in illegal gambling profits from Buck’s Superette, located on Big A Road, Tinkerbell’s located on West Currahee Street, American Eagle located at Currahee and Broad Street, and Mountain Mart located at Big A and Currahee Street. Currently three arrests have been made.
Arrested were: Brandi Cleveland, 32, of Toccoa, Kulwinder Singh, age 46 of Lawrenceville, Georgia, and Gurdev Singh, age 46 of LeTourneau Drive Toccoa. The Trio have been charged with one count each of felony Commercial Gambling. Both Singhs were also charged with keeping a gambling place. Bonds have been set at $25,000 per count.
Other arrests are pending for two individuals who are currently in Texas, and one other who is in the Toccoa area.
The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the assistance of the US Marshals Office in the arrest of those who fled to Texas. The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office would also like to thank the Georgia Lottery Commission, Toccoa Police Department Narcotics, and the FBI’s North Georgia Major Offender Task Force for their assistance in this investigation.
