Thousands Left Without Power After Friday Overnight Storm

A powerful thunderstorm ripped through Hart, Franklin, and Stephens Counties overnight Friday leaving some 4,000 Hart EMC customers without power, mainly in Hart and Franklin Couties. By Saturday morning, that number was reduced to about 2,200 customers.

Georgia Power reported some 500 customers without power in the region.

The storm moved through quickly leaving downed trees and tree debris in its wake.

News last night’s storm he said came down from the upper Midwest, through Tennessee and moved quickly south through Northeast Georgia, the Upstate of South Carolina and into Middle Georgia and the coast.

Palmer said another line of strong thunderstorms is expected to move through Saturday afternoon with wind speeds up to 60mph.   However, he said the storm should move through quickly with no hail, tornadoes, or flooding expected.
