The Chattel Shop joins the Chamber of Commerce

Last Thursday, the Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting for its newest member, The Chattel Shop, located at 56 Doyle Street.

Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce Vice Chair Jeremy Spradlin welcomed owner Stephanie West to the Chamber.

“Just thank you so much for the investment. I think I overheard you say that 90 percent of the people that grace the doors is from out-of-town,” Spradlin said. “That’s so important to a small town. We’ve got to have these shops to draw these people to our downtown. Without you, we wouldn’t have those people. So thank you so much for your investment here with us.”

City of Toccoa Vice Mayer Gail Fry also spoke during the ribbon cutting.

“Thank you, Stephanie. It’s always great to have our hometown people that love our community want to be apart of it; and, that is so exciting to me, that you are willing to invest in our community,” Fry said. “Your shop is lovely, and the storefront, when you go by it’s just really interesting, and I know that people want to come in. Thank you, for partnering with the other businesses in town, the city appreciate you.”

West told WNEG News about what The Chattel Shop offers to the community.

“The word “Chattel” is an English term for personal property,” West said. “So–me being a realtor–I was noticing, my real estate clients, when they were moving around they always had beautiful pieces of furniture, and dishes, and china, and crystal; but, they didn’t have room for it anymore, and nobody in the family wanted or had room for it. But they just didn’t want to give those things away. So what do you do with it? I inventory, in the store, their items and when they sell, I send them the money on consignment, I’ve also invited all local artists to come in and sell their work as well.”

The Chattel Shop is open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.

West added that she will have extended hours on Saturdays during the Ida Cox Music Festival.
