The 2nd Annual Northeast Georgia Veteran Jamboree is tomorrow

Local veterans are banding together to sponsor a day of family fun and fundraising in Cornelia.

The 2nd Annual Northeast Georgia Veteran Jamboree takes place this Saturday, May 12, from 9a.m-3p.m. at the Cornelia Community House and City Park.

The day will include a wide range of activities including a car show, kids games, live entertainment, food and drinks and veteran guest speakers.

Following the Jamboree, Platinum recording artist and two-time “Entertainer of the Year” Neil McCoy will be performing a free concert in downtown Cornelia.

Organizer and VFW Post 7720 Commander Bill Miles told WNEG News about the forthcoming jamboree.

“We will have several organizations here to let people know what veterans organizations do for our communities. If any veteran has any question about accessing benefits or filing a disability claim we will have people here to help them through the process,” Miles said.

Saturday’s Jamboree is an opportunity for civilians to see what veteran organizations do in their communities.

Miles continued that there will be several activities set up for a great day of family oriented fun.

“We will have several vendors here with information, we have a car show, kid and adult games, live entertainment, we have several choirs and local bands that will be performing throughout the day. We want everyone to know that this isn’t just an event for veterans, its for everyone. So come out and enjoy the family oriented fun we have planned for the day,” Miles said.

Miles says that once veterans have been discharged from service, they still have a service heart and an innate desire to help their community.

Local veterans devote time and resources to visiting their fellow veterans in nursing homes and assisting them with medical and other financial needs.

Again, the 2nd annual Veteran Jamboree happens this Saturday from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Cornelia Community House, located at 601 Wyly Street, in Cornelia.
