TFC holds remembrance service

Toccoa Falls College celebrated the somber 40year anniversary of the Toccoa Dam break this past weekend.

Held Saturday, at the Toccoa Falls College Welcome Center, several were in attendance during the remembrance service.

Dr. Robert Myers, President of the college, told WNEG News Saturday about the service saying, “On Nov. 6, 1977 we suffered a tremendious tragedy at Toccoa Falls College with the flood…What we’re celebrating today is the faithfulness of God, we have not just survived since the flood, but we have thrived since the flood.”

During the service, Jon Penland, Dean of the School of Christian Ministries compared the devastation of the flood to the process of staining glass, where before the glass can become beautiful it has to go through a process of being broken and heated.

Toccoa Falls College will hold another remembrance service on the anniversary of the dam break, Nov. 6.
