TCC will meet today for regular scheduled meeting

The Toccoa City Commission will meet this evening for its regular scheduled meeting.

The meeting will begin promptly at 5:00 p.m. inside the City Commission/Court Room at Toccoa City Hall.

Up for consideration is a presentation of the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation Excellence in Stewardship Award, an alcohol beverage license for Currahee Creative Arts Studio, and the monthly finance report.

The Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation Excellence in Stewardship Award recognizes those who ensure the preservation of historic properties through care and maintenance, stabilization, protection, or continuous family ownership.

The Historic Toccoa Train Depot and Platform has garnered the attention for this award.

The Historic Toccoa Train Depot, constructed in 1915, is now home to the Chamber of Commerce, Welcome Center, Currahee Military Museum, Stephens County Historical Society, and an active Amtrak Station.

In 2005, the City of Toccoa revitalized the exterior of the Historic Trian Depot, however, the passenger platform remained in disrepair. The concrete was cracked and below acceptable for ADA standards; but, in 2020, the City of Toccoa was able to secure an agreement with Amtrak to renovate the platform with multiple upgrades: a fully-ADA accessible platform, twenty historically inspired lights, and new signage for public interpretation.

The fully revitalized Toccoa Train Depot and Platform have become a focal point for community locals and visitors alike.

For the alcohol license, the Alcohol Beverage Control Board recently met in April to consider the application from the Currahee Creative Arts Studio.

The ABC Board is recommended the Toccoa City Commission approve the license.

The monthly finance report will be presented by City Finance Director Becky Bohannon and will cover the city’s finances for the month of April.

Again, the Toccoa City Commission will meet this evening at 5:00 p.m. inside the City Commission/Court Room at Toccoa City Hall.

The public is invited to attend.
