TCC will meet this afternoon to amend Hotel-Motel Excise Tax Ordinance

The Toccoa City Commission is set to meet this afternoon for its regular scheduled meeting.

The meeting will begin promptly at 5:00 p.m. inside the City Commission/Court Room at Toccoa City Hall.

Up for consideration is an Amendment to the Hotel-Motel Excise Tax Ordinance to Include the Definition of Marketplace Innkeeper.

The change was recommended during the previous Toccoa City Commission meeting when Commissioner Terry Carter asked if Marketplace Innkeeper needed to be added to the ordinance.

As of late, the Commission has discussed adding AirBnB rentals and other similar rentals to the Hotel-Motel Excise Tax Ordinance.

Commissioner Gail Fry said the Commission needed to add something that will tax those types of rentals.

Vice Mayor Jeanette Jamieson agreed with Fry.

With the addition of the Marketplace Innkeeper, it will allow the city to collect an excise tax from those types of rentals.

The definition for Marketplace Innkeeper is any person who is subject to the taxation imposed for facilitating the furnishing for value to the public any room or rooms, lodgings, or accommodations on behalf of another person.

The definition mirrors that of the Official Code of Georgia.

Additionally, the Commission will consider changing the second commission meeting in December to December 20, instead of the current date of December 27.

Lastly, the Commission will receive the monthly financial report from City Finance Director Becky Bohannon.

Again, the Toccoa City Commission will meet today for its regular scheduled meeting at 5:00 p.m. in the City Commission/Court Room at Toccoa City Hall.
