TCC will consider increasing funding for TSCHS during today’s meeting

The Toccoa City Commission will meet this evening for its regular scheduled meeting.

The meeting will start promptly at 5:00 p.m. inside the City Commission/Court Room at Toccoa City Hall.

Up for consideration is a public hearing and initial zoning request for annexation from Bittsco, LLC for the property located at 1300 Block of Fernside Drive; the consideration of Fiscal Year 2023 Budget Amendment to increase the Toccoa-Stephens County Humane Shelter funding, and the consideration of funding to assist the Stephens County 4-H Program purchase a Youth Transport Van.

As WNEG News previously reported, the Stephens County Board of Commissioners recently increased the Toccoa-Stephens County Humane Shelters funding for Fiscal Year 2023.

The decision was made after Angie Garland, representing the humane shelter, came forward asking the commission to consider increasing their funding by $50,000; however, the commission ultimately agreed to increase their funding by $25,000.

At that meeting, Garland explained that the Toccoa City Commission has agreed to give the shelter what they need to continue operations.

The Toccoa City Commission will consider adding $25,000 to the humane shelter’s funding.

Additionally, the Toccoa City Commission will consider contributing $5,000 towards the purchase of a new van for the Stephens County 4-H program.

As WNEG News previously reported, the Stephens County Board of Commissioners agreed to use the remaining $15,000 in CARES Act funds to go towards the purchase of a new van.

Stephens County Extension Coordinator Susan Yearwood told the Stephens County Board of Commissioners that she was looking at several avenues for funding.

Again, the Toccoa City Commission will meet today at 5:00 p.m. inside the City Commission/Court Room at Toccoa City Hall.
