TCC to consider setting millage rate at next meeting

The Toccoa City Commission will set the Tax Millage Rate for 2021 Tax Season on Monday during its regular scheduled meeting.

The millage rate is the number of dollars of tax assessed for each $1,000 of property value.

For example, a rate of 10 mills means that $10 in tax is levied on every $1,000 in assessed value.

According to City Manager Billy Morse, the City Commission is considering setting the millage rate at 5.98 mills for 2021, the same as last year’s millage rate.

If the City Commission approves the recommended 5.98 millage rate, Smart Fusion, the software provider for Toccoa’s property taxes, will mail out taxes on September 15 with a due date of November 15, 2021.

City Clerk Fredda Wheeler says during the past collection cycle, the city collected 102% of current taxes budgeted and 90% of delinquent taxes budgeted.

She adds that the city is striving to increase those numbers for the 2021 tax season.

Again, the Toccoa City Commission will meet on Monday, July 26, at 5:00 p.m. for its regular scheduled meeting, inside the City Commission/Court Room at Toccoa City Hall.

The meeting is open to the public and anyone wishing to attend is invited to do so.
