TCC to consider grant application for Phase III of Historic Resources Survey

The Toccoa City Commission will meet later today for its regular scheduled meeting and work session.

One item to be discussed is a consideration of resolution concerning a grant application for the Historic Preservation Fund Phase III.

The Historic Preservation Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources recently announced that funding was available for the Historic Preservation Fund grant program.

The City of Toccoa completed Phase I of the historic resources survey in Fiscal Year 2016, utilizing funds from the HPF grant program. Phase II was completed in Fiscal Year 2018.

Phase II consisted of the north Quadrant of the City, bounded by the railroad tracks and the Toccoa Main Street Project District on the south, and the city limits of Toccoa on the north, west, and east.

Phase III of the historic resources survey will cover the majority of the Southwest Quadrant of the City of Toccoa, bounded by the railroad tracks and Main Street Project District to the north, the Toccoa City limits to the west and south, and roughly bounded by parcels located near Davis Avenue and Morgan Street to the east.

The City is applying for $15,000 from the HPF grant program to assist in the update of the City’s Historic resources survey.

According to city officials, the estimated total cost of Phase III is $25,000, with the HPF grant program providing 60 percent of the total cost.

In other business the Toccoa City Commission will discuss the budget for the Police Substation project.

The Police Substation is located at 589 South Pond Street, and requires a total of $65,331 to complete.

The Northeast Georgia Housing Authority is contributing $25,000 for the renovation project; whereas the city is responsible for $40,331.
