TCC sets millage rate at 5.987 mills for 2020

Toccoa City Commissioners have agreed on the millage rate for 2020.

At their meeting Monday, the Commission heard from City Manager Billy Morse who recommended the city take the roll-back rate of 5.987 mills.

In 2019, the City Millage rate was 6.00 mills.

In Georgia, the tax rate, or millage, in each county is set annually by the board of county commissioners, or other governing authority of the taxing jurisdiction, and by the Board of Education.

A tax rate of one mill represents a tax liability of one dollar per $1,000 of assessed value.

The average county and municipal millage rate is 30 mills.

Morse said now that the next millage rate has been determined, tax bills will go out on September 15 with a due date of November 15.

After hearing from Morse, the Commissioner voted unanimously to set the millage rate to 5.987 mills.
