TCC seeking grant funding for Ritz Theatre addition

The Toccoa City Commission approved a resolution to secure grant funding through the Appalachian Regional Commission for the Historic Ritz Theatre addition.

During the Commission’s regular scheduled meeting on Monday, City Manager Billy Morse explained that the city is seeking $750,000 in grant funding.

Morse says the city would be responsible for providing a 30 percent cash match of $225,000.

He continued to explain that the funds would help cover the cost to construct an addition to house a new lobby, concession stand, ticket booth, restrooms, and other necessary features for the Historic Ritz Theatre.

Toccoa Mayor Jeanette Jamieson asked if there were any renderings of what the completed addition will look like?

Morse said there are some preliminary renderings available; however, once the design is finalized then that rendering will be made available for the public.

Commissioner Terry Carter said they recently met with an architect to address their needs for the addition.

Carter added that they requested the maximum amount through the Appalachian Regional Commission because they still are unsure of what grants the city will receive for this project.

A motion approving the resolution was made by Carter, with Commissioner Evan Hellenga seconding the motion.

The motion was approved unanimously.
