TCC scheduled to meet today at 5 p.m.

The Toccoa City Commission will meet later today for its regular scheduled meeting; however, like earlier this month, the meeting will be conducted through teleconference.

The call-in number to attend the meeting by teleconference is 706-898-5160, after calling you will be asked to input a code to join the meeting, that code is 790453.

As WNEG News told you on Friday, the Toccoa City Commission will consider a motion reallocating the Façade Grant Program funds to a Bridge-The-Gap Grant program to help local small businesses with mortgage payments, rent, and utility bills.

According to City Manager Billy Morse, the grants will be for $250 each, which means the $6,700 in the Façade Grant Program could provide funding to 27 businesses.

Morse says eligible businesses would include for-profit consumer-facing small retail businesses within the Main Street District, such as restaurants, retail storefront, salons, travel agencies, and more. Ineligible businesses would include non-profits, franchise, auto and auto body repair or sales shops, gas stations, banks, home-based businesses, government entities, or businesses less than 1 year in operation.

Morse says grant funding could be used only for the purpose of paying mortgage payments, rent, or utilities, including water, gas, electricity, or internet. The purpose of this grant would be to help “bridge the gap” as the Shelter-in-Place order is lifted and business returns to normal in this unprecedented time.

Also, up for consideration during today’s meeting is a motion to change the second city commission meeting date in May to May 18.

The second meeting is May, as scheduled falls on Monday, May 25; however, this is Memorial Day, therefore, the board is considering rescheduling the meeting for May 18.

Again, to attend today’s meeting by teleconference call 706-898-5160, you will then be asked to input the code: 790453 after calling in to join the meeting.

The Toccoa City Commission meeting will begin promptly at 5:00 p.m.
