TCC, SCBC approve LOST Certificate of Distribution

The Toccoa City Commission and Stephens County Board of Commissioners both signed Local Option Sales Tax Certificate of Distributions during their respective meetings this week.

Stephens County LOST funds are divided between Stephens County, the City of Toccoa, and the Town of Martin.

Stephens County receives 63.51 percent of LOST funds, Toccoa receives 35.26 percent, and Martin receives 1.23 percent.

On Monday, the Toccoa City Commission met and approved the LOST Distributions agreement.

City Manager Billy Morse explained that representatives from the Toccoa City Commission recently met with representatives from the Stephens County Board of Commissioners to discuss LOST distributions.

He says both agencies agreed to leave the distribution percentages unchanged.

A motion was made by Commissioner Gail Fry approving the distribution agreement with Commissioner Evan Hellenga seconding the motion.

The motion was approved 4-0 with Commissioner Terry Carter being absent.

Then, on Tuesday, during the Stephens County Board of Commissioner’s regular scheduled meeting, the commission agreed to the same terms as the Toccoa City Commission.

County Administrator Phyllis Ayers explained that after meeting with the Toccoa City Commission that they have decided to keep the LOST allocations the same for the next 10-year period.

Commissioner Dean Scarborough made a motion approving the agreement with Commissioner Debbie Whitlock seconding the motion.

The motion was approved 5-0.
