TCC removes Entertainment District Ordinance from agenda

The Toccoa City Commission removed the consideration of an Entertainment District Ordinance from the agenda during its meeting on Monday.

The Entertainment District Ordinance would have allowed citizens to consume alcoholic beverages on city sidewalks in the downtown area in the designated Entertainment District.

Commissioner Terry Carter made an initial motion to table the reading; however, Vice Mayor Jeanette Jamieson made a counter motion to remove the item from the agenda completely.

According to Jamieson, the city commission’s constituents are not in favor of an ordinance that would allow the consumption of alcoholic beverages on city sidewalks in the downtown area at this time.

Commissioner Gail Fry agreed with Jamieson, saying the city isn’t ready for something like this.

Commissioner David Austin, who agrees with Jamieson, said he typically votes to support the recommendations of the Downtown Development Authority; however, will vote in favor of Jamieson’s motion.

Jamieson made a motion to remove the item from the agenda with Austin seconding the motion. The motion was approved unanimously.
