TCC makes several appointments during recent meeting

The Toccoa City Commission made several appointments during its meeting on Monday.

City Manager Billy Morse explained that several seats were expiring soon on the Housing Board, Historic Preservation Committee, and the Toccoa Planning Commission.

Morse says Toccoa Housing Board Member Deidra Scott’s term expires on June 30; however, Scott has agreed to serve another three-year term.

“Effective June 30, Toccoa Housing Board Member Deidra Scott’s term will expire. Mrs. Scott has agreed to serve another term if appointed by the Commission,” he said.

Morse says there are three seats set to expire on the Toccoa Historic Preservation Commission. Those seats are filled by Susan Turner, Patti Chism, and Thurston Estes.

Both Turner and Estes have agreed to serve another three-year term; however, Chism has decided not to seek reappointment.

“Also, effective June 30, three board members of the Historic Preservation Commission have terms that will expire, they are Susan Turner, Patti Chism, and Thurston Estes. Susan Turner and Thurston Estes have agreed to serve another three-year term; Patti Chism does not wish to be reappointed. Since the City Commission appointed two new members last year, there is no need to replace Mrs. Chism’s position since there will still be five members on the HPC Board,” he said.

Morse says there are three seats on the Toccoa Planning Commission that will soon expire.

Those seats are filled by Angie Garland, Tara Simmons, and Walker Whitworth.

Morse says Garland and Simmons have agreed to be reappointed to the commission.

“Again, effective June 30, three board members of the Toccoa Planning Commission terms will expire, they are Angie Garland, Tara Simmons, and Walker Whitworth. Mrs. Garland and Mrs. Simmons have agreed to serve another term; Mr. Whitworth has asked not to be reappointed. The Planning Commission discussed this at their meeting on May 20, and have recommended that you consider Josh Rickman for that vacancy,” he said.

Josh Rickman was appointed to serve in the seat left vacant by Whitworth.

All appointments were approved unanimously.
