The Toccoa City Commission approved an ordinance for the 2021 General Election for the City of Toccoa at its meeting on Monday.

According to City Manager Billy Morse, there are two City Commission seats that will be up for grabs during the election on November 2.

He says the terms for Post 3 and Post 5, currently chaired by Mayor Evan Hellenga and Vice-Mayor Jeanette Jamieson, will expire December 31, 2021.

The qualifying period for the election will open on Monday, August 16 and close at the end of day on Wednesday, August 18. The qualifying fee for the City Commission position is $330.

The last day to register to vote and be eligible to vote in the November 2, election is October 4.

Morse says early voting will be held at the Historic Stephens County Courthouse and election day voting will be held at Toccoa City Hall.

Commissioner Terry Carter asked Morse if the qualifying fee had increased since the last election; Morse explained that the fee had not changed.

A motion was made by Commissioner Gail Fry with Commissioner David Austin seconding the motion.

The motion was approved unanimously.
