TCC approves Arbor Day Proclamation

The Toccoa City Commission approved a proclamation for Arbor Day during its meeting on Monday.

The Proclamation proclaims February 26, 2021 as Toccoa Arbor Day.

Toccoa Mayor Evan Hellenga read the proclamation.

“Whereas, in February 2006 Toccoa was designated for the first time in its history as a new Tree City USA at the Georgia’s Arbor Day Ceremony by the Georgia Urban Council, and has been designated as a ‘Tree City for 2021’ by the Georgia Urban Council,” he said.

Main Street Toccoa Events Coordinator Sharon Crosby says this is the city’s 16th year participating as a Tree City.

She adds that on Friday, February 26, beginning at 10 a.m., the City will plant a tree for Arbor Day; but, due to COVID-19, the tree planting will be streamed on Facebook.

Commissioner Gail Fry made a motion approving the Arbor Day Proclamation with Vice Mayor Jeanette Jamieson seconding the motion.

The motion was approved unanimously.
