TCC agrees to give Stephens County 4-H program $5K for new van

The Toccoa City Commission has agreed to give $5,000 to Stephens County’s 4-H program to use towards the purchase of a youth transport van.

During the Toccoa City Commission’s regular scheduled meeting on Monday, City Manager Billy Morse explained that recently the Stephens County Board of Commissioners agreed to give $15,000 and that the city was recommending they give $5,000.

He says the funds will be used for the purchase of a new transport van.

As WNEG News previously reported, Stephens County Extension Coordinator Susan Yearwood came before the Stephens County Board of Commissioners asking for $15,000 from the CARES Act Funds.

Yearwood said the current bus they have is 20 years old and is no longer reliable for longer trips.

During the Toccoa City Commission’s meeting, a motion approving the $5,000 request was made by Commissioner Gail Fry with Commissioner Evan Hellenga seconding the motion.

The motion was approved unanimously.

Including the $15,000 approved by the Stephens County Board of Commissioners and the $5,000 approved by the Toccoa City Commission the 4-H program has collected a total of $20,000 to be used towards the purchase of a van.
