Tankersley nominated for Falcons Coach of the Week – cast your vote online

Stephens County head football coach Wesley Tankersley has been nominated as the Atlanta Falcons Coach of the Week.

This program, presented by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, recognizes the efforts of varsity tackle and girls flag football coaches across the states of Georgia and Alabama for their hard work, and their dedication to making a difference in student-athletes’ lives, on and off the field.  Each week, one coach is selected by online votes, to be the Atlanta Falcons Coach of the Week based on coaching excellence and commitment to their team, community and player safety.

The winning coach will receive a $1,000 grant for their football program and recognition from the Atlanta Falcons at a game this season.

Coach Tankersley’s nomination pointed out his leadership in the Indians’ shut-out of Rabun County on August 25, the first team to do that since 2013, and in breaking a 5-game losing streak against the Wildcats.

Coach Tankersley’s commitment to the community is apparent as he leads the football staff in providing youth clinics to recreation football coaches.  Additionally, He organized a program where players go to the elementary schools to promote reading, and read to the students.

Tankersley was recognized as the Falcons Coach of the Week in September 2021 and also in 2017 as coach at Ridgeland High School

This week, Tankersley is up against Druid Hills coach Frederick Green and Duluth’s Cam Jones.

Voting will close at 9 a.m. tomorrow morning, September 14.
