T-SC Humane Shelter Volunteer Event slated for Saturday

The Toccoa-Stephens County Humane Shelter will be holding a volunteer event this weekend.

Humane Shelter Executive Director Jeff Roberts says the event will be to celebrate the shelter having over 1,000 dogs and cats adopted last year.

He says the shelter’s live-release rate is now over 93 percent.

That’s why on Saturday, March 12, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Roberts says come celebrate at the Toccoa-Stephens County Humane Shelter, located at 1747 Scenic Drive, in Toccoa.

The volunteer event is open to old and new volunteers.

Roberts says come be a part of their life saving activities, learn about volunteer opportunities including socializing animals, short-term foster care for litters of puppies and kittens and the need for animal transport drivers and off-site adoption events.

They’ll also be giving tours of the shelter, to let volunteers see the interworking’s of the shelter and what they do to help animals get adopted.

Roberts says you’ll have an opportunity to observe shelter “play groups for dogs,” which helps make dogs more adoptable.

A hot dog picnic lunch will be provided by the Toccoa Lions Club.

Again, on Saturday, March 12, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. come to the Toccoa-Stephens County Humane Shelter for this volunteer event.
