Suspect Sought in Yonah Dam Burglary

Authorities in Stephens County think they know who is responsible for the break-in earlier this month at Yonah Dam.

On Tuesday, Stephens County Sheriff’s office Chief Investigator Andy Meyers said they have a suspect and are currently searching for him.

Meyers said he could not comment further other than to say the suspect is known to law enforcement.

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley tells WNEG News it happened between February 4th and 5th.

He said surveillance cameras captured a man who inside the Yonah Hydroelectric Dam who he said made off with various tools that were inside the facility.

Yonah Dam is owned and operated by Georgia Power.

In the surveillance photos released by the Stephens County Sheriff’s office, the suspect appears to be a light-skinned male in his teens or 20’s.

At the time of the break-in the suspect was wearing a dark blue or black hoodie sweatshirt with the word, “Renfroe” in yellow letters on the front along with a basketball emblem, a dark colored baseball cap, and baggy pants.
