Stroud named Stephens County’s 2022 STAR Student

Stephens County has named its STAR student.

This week, the Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce announced that Kathryn Ann Stroud, of Stephens County High School has been named the 2022 Professional Association of Georgia Educators STAR Student for Stephens County.

Stroud earned this recognition for her academic achievement and performance on the S.A.T.

Stroud is the daughter of Scott and Kim Stroud of Toccoa.

To obtain the 2022 STAR nomination, graduating high school seniors must have the highest score on a single test date on the S.A.T and be in the top 10 percent or top 10 students of their class based on grade point average.

As the STAR student, Stroud picked Stephens County High School AP Biology teacher Ms. Shawler as her STAR teacher.

The Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce is the local sponsor for the Stephens County STAR Program.

Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce President Julie Paysen made the announcement on Tuesday.

Paysen says on behalf of the Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce, she is proud of Stroud’s academic excellence.

Stroud will now represent Stephens County at the Region STAR Student competition.

STAR begins each year in participating Georgia high schools when the STAR Student is named and chooses a STAR Teacher to share in the recognition.

The students and their teachers are honored by their schools and receive special recognition in their communities from one of the more than 165 statewide civic organizations and businesses that serve as local sponsors of the STAR Program.

Students then compete for school system recognition as the top STAR Student, and those winners compete for region honors.

Region winners contend for the honor of being named STATE PAGE STAR Student.

STAR Teachers continue on with their STAR Students at every level of the program.
