Stolen items, from Martin, recovered in South Carolina

Cameron Douglas Goolsby, 47, of Toccoa, found himself behind bars after taking the Stephens County Sheriff’s office on a search across state lines for a stolen lawnmower this past week.

Property stolen from Stephens County was recovered in South Carolina, according to authorities.

The Sheriff’s Office received a report of a riding lawnmower that had been taken from a residence in Martin on Sept. 30.

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley said investigators followed an anonymous tip that lead to an auction house in McCormick, South Carolina.

The auction was able to provide investigators with the seller’s information as well as the purchaser.

Stephens County investigators working in partnership with investigators from the Greenwood County Sheriff’s office.

Investigators were able to make contact with the purchaser of the mower and positively identify it as the one reported stolen.

The mower was recovered and will be returned to the rightful owner.

According to authorities, Goolsby has been charged with theft by receiving stolen property.

Goolsby will also be facing charges in McCormick South Carolina related to the theft and sale of the stolen lawnmower.
